International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Duxbury for All encourages everyone to spend time on International Holocaust Remembrance Day remembering the tragedy of the Holocaust, and reflect on what each of us can do to help prevent acts of anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination.

We applaud the work of the Duxbury Schools to help students engage with this issue. To learn more about the Holocaust symposium, read Maureen Hermann’s article “Joining together to bear witness to the unthinkable” in the January 26th issue of the Duxbury Clipper https://www.duxburyclipper.com/pageview/viewer/2022-01-26#page=3

Every year around 27 January, UNESCO pays tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to counter antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance that may lead to group-targeted violence. The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945. It was officially proclaimed, in November 2005, International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust by the United Nations General Assembly.
