Listen, Reflect, Act events are hosted via Zoom, where local residents talk about their experiences with bias.
We support town-wide reads of books dealing with racism and other forms of prejudice.
A member survey is conducted, and from members’ input, we develop a strategic plan.
We introduce a new, more inclusive name – Duxbury for All .
The Duxbury Select Board adopts our DEI Proclamation.
With our help, Duxbury plans for a DEI Summit.
We host “Backyard Conversations” and “Fireside Chats” to engage people in the DEI cause.
A new DfA website with an expanded resource center is released.
We collaborate with sister organizations on the South Shore and Cape Cod, helping to promote each other’s work and share best practices.
During the High School Football Team’s antisemitic play calls incident, DfA works closely with schools.
We help the Student Union sponsor a Holocaust symposium.
DfA hosts a public screening of the Holocaust documentary “Etched in Glass” at the Performing Arts Center.
Our first Comedy Night raises $8,000 for DfA programming and scholarships.
We host a Listening session where residents can talk about the January 6 insurrection in Washington D.C.
We make a public statement on Critical Race Theory.
DARI (Duxbury Afghan Resettlement Initiative) is launched to respond to the Afghan Refugee crisis; an Afghan family is brought to Duxbury where a large volunteer group supports them and helps them to adjust to their new lives in America.
DfA funds a 2022 Middle School summer speaker.
We cohost Stewart Ting Chong’s reflection on growing up in South Africa, and his work to help end apartheid.
A Community Listening Event is held to help us identify key areas of concern (-isms) and create a multi-year program to understand and address each of them.
A regional DEI event is held at which DfA, Duxbury Schools, and the Town Select Board share their DEI experiences and accomplishments with other activist groups, towns and school administrators in SE Massachusetts.
We cohost Drag Queen Story Hour with the Duxbury Free Public Library.
We collaborate with Duxbury Schools and the Duxbury Free Library to screen the documentary “RACE to Be Human” with a panel discussion following the screening.
We sponsor events at the Duxbury Music festival in 2021 and 2022 featuring diverse composers and performers.
A second Comedy Night fundraiser to support DEI programs and scholarships is held October 2022.
We collaborate with local organizations to promote LGBTQ+ issues, culminating in the drafting of a PRIDE proclamation adopted by the Select Committee in June 2023.
A 1619 Project course is held over the course of eight months which engages dozens of residents in a better understanding of the origins of and current extent of racism in America.
Working with the Duxbury Free Library, we co-host Race Amity Day events in 2022 and 2023.
On completion of the 1619 Project course, a group of the participants meets to consider how to act on what they learned.
A regular series of “Challenging Conversations” is held, including one hosted by the Duxbury Police Department.
Regular newsletters are sent out to our supporter base, which now exceeds 600—representing one in nine households in Duxbury.
Our application to present a Human Library event in November 2023 is approved by the parent organization in Denmark.
DfA Scholarships are awarded to Duxbury High School seniors who demonstrate DEI principles.
We begin to explore new programs that will promote DEI, such as ways to build more affordable housing in Duxbury.
